Matte Painting
From Mographwiki.net
Matte paintings are usually backdrops that are later composited into a scene. They can be created using a mix of techniques like photography, CGI, natural media painting and digital painting among others. The sources are then assembled together to form something as realistic or outlandish as the project demands. They can be created from scratch or they can be subtle enhancements to an extend an existing set.
