History of America
| “ | There are few stories better known or more beloved than the American origin story. Indeed, any schoolchild can recite at least a few lines from the Declaration of Independence, or tell you about Paul Revere's infamous Midnight Ride.
Except none of it is true. Centuries of campfire stories have spun America's history into a fanciful tale filled with myths and half-truths. MK12's History of America is here to set the record straight. Set against the warm sin of Las Vegas and the cold, cold vacuum of deep space, this is the true story behind the story -- one which chronicles the epic struggle between the Astronauts and the Cowboys as they fight for life, liberty, and justice for all. | ” |
Started in 2004, History of America is reported to be MK12's most ambition internal project yet. It's a "really long short film" (the rough cut was 38 minutes), and "about how America got born and stuff with cowboys and astronauts".[1] In 2005, MK12 released the trailer to History of America as the headpiece for their newly designed website. It was so popular that the site temporarily went down.[2] From the trailer, the film appears to rely heavily on rotoscoping and to have a narrative structure.
In November 2006, MK12 posted production stills featuring an astronaut with a hatchet on greenscreen, dead cowboys and a man on horseback.
In 2007, A 5-minute long cut was screened at Semi Permanent 05 in London.
On September 27th, 2007, MK12 releases 'History of America' online..
