Artist Statement/Bio
Fabian Tejada was born in Queens, New York. He completed his BFA in Computer Art from the School of Visual Arts in 1998 and his MFA in Computer Art, New York City in 2006. He currently lives and works in New York City.
Fabian is an award winning Motion Graphics Designer/Director whose versatile work spans from: Environmental Design, Broadcast Design, Art Direction, Animation and live VJ performance.
The use of time based media has allowed Fabian to translate Spatio-Temporal relationships into his design aesthetic. His process involves composing to a rhythm and designing a chronological system of sound and visual interleaved in order to create visual music. Fabian’s aim is to create harmony through design in time and space to bring discernable order to information in a chaotic world.
Fabian’s obsession with the expressive qualities of time and space led him to become a founding member of the historic VJ collective Honeygunlabs. At this time is when he developed an affinity for creating video loops to be used in live performances. As a VJ he worked in conjunction with some of the greatest names in the electronic dance music scene: Derrick May, Boy George, George Clinton’s P-Funk All Stars, Green Velvet, Anthony Rother, Dom & Roland, DJ Rap, etc. He also performed main stage at the height of the Detroit Electronic Music Conference in 2002 were attendance exceeded 1.7 million fans.
Fabian’s environmental design work had been included in SF Moma, The Prada stores in New York City, Beverly Hills, Hong Kong, Shanghai, The Tokyo Mori Art Center, The Brooklyn Museum, the Samsung Experience Store at the Time Warner Building in NYC. His environmental work is no stranger to awards and façades in Times Square. His work has received numerous awards from prestigious organizations: AIGA, D&AD, The Art Directors Club, American Graphic Design and Communication Arts.
Fabian Tejada is currently working on reactive environments that challenge the viewer’s notion of space and creatively drive invisible technology into the future.
