CMT: CMT Music ID's 2006
New York City, 2006 - Known for habitually sad lyrics and sobering story lines, country music seems an unlikely source of whimsical play. But the fun side of country is exactly what inspired design-based production company EyeballNYC and music company Expansion Team while working on the new ID package for Country Music Television (CMT).
“It’s a challenge to take the cliché element and find a new way to use it,” said Limore Shur, creative director at EyeballNYC.” But that’s what has been successful about our work with CMT, that we embrace the cliché, the overused and obvious, and create something new.”
“There’s a certain fascination with Country Music Television coming to New York to work with a design company many may view as a little more on the edge,” explained Shur. “We’ve been collaborating with them for more than three years now, and it shows that you don’t always have to look at a story the same way and that challenging work can be the most successful.”

CMT: CMT Music ID's 2005
New York City, 2005 - Building upon their well-received work for Viacom’s Country Music Television (CMT) in 2005, design-based production company EyeballNYC and music company Expansion Team have continued their foray into country-music culture, creating a new package of ID’s for the Nashville-based network.
Shooting on location in the vast expanses of Colorado, where the spirit of country music seeps from the environment, the new spots build upon the authentic yet fresh quality of the previous CMT ID package, which highlighted the individuality of various country musicians. “We used a similar idea, but rather than showing the personalities literally, we were interested in delving deeper into the influences and inspirations of each character,” said Carlo Vega, who, along with Adam Gault, directed the spots.
“We knew we could expect great things from EyeballNYC and Expansion Team,” said Michael Engleman, CMT’s Director of Broadcast. “They retained the natural aesthetic that we appreciated so much and stayed true to the music, while continuing to push the boundaries. We couldn’t be happier with the results.”

CMT: CMT Music ID's 2004
New York City, 2004 - Design company, EyeballNYC and music house, Expansion Team, recently teamed up to produce a 10-spot ID package for Nashville-based Country Music Television. Eyeball’s goal was to give the ID package the depth, density and realism that reflects the true nature of country music. Titled “CMT Music”, the project represents a stark departure from the network’s on-air look. For the production, EyeballNYC was responsible for the overall concept as well as the photography, design and editorial of each piece, while Expansion Team’s wide range of composers provided the music beds.
EyeballNYC approached the live-action aspect of the production by shooting over a couple of days in the heartland of Texas. Under the assignment of EyeballNYC creative director, Limore Shur, director/designer, Adam Gault helmed the shoot. The first stage involved capturing the more traditional aspects of country lifestyle by shooting landscapes and textures found while driving from Dallas to Austin. The second stage involved shooting locally found musicians during the day. Finally, at night, the crew hit Austin’s clubs to capture the energy and excitement of the live music scene. Austin’s music scene provided exactly what CMT and EyeballNYC wanted in the production: a combination of traditional and modern country with a wide range of age and personality.
The CMT Music IDs have set a new benchmark for the CMT brand and country music as a genre. The hand-made, authentic approach to the work has positioned the network in a way that is bold and progressive all the while celebrating the rich traditions and roots of the music from which it is inspired, commented Michael Engleman, CMT’s Creative Director.
