Bio
A graduate of The Ohio State University's Knowlton School of Architecture and Columbia University's GSAP, Brian Levi Bowman initially studied architecture and graduated with a Masters of Architecture in 2000. While at Columbia, Bowman joined the architecture firm NBBJ in 1999 as a designer and worked under the architects Timothy Johnson, James Brennan, and Peter Pran. During this time, Bowman helped implement 3D visualization as part of an architectural design process and develop intellegent 3D modeling tools. He designed several buildings in New York none of which were ever built.
Frustrated, Bowman began turning to 3D animation to represent his creative ideas relating to time, space, reality and the future. This lead to a short film titled 'Spheres of Desire,' co-directed with fellow architect Jason Buchheit, which was then screened at Resfest during the fall global tour of 2003. Bowman also left NBBJ in 2003 and joined the NYC CG animation studio Iomedia as Post Production Director.
Bowman continued to work on his own independently, directing music videos for Tycho (currently on Merck Records) and Blockhead (Ninja Tune Records) in 2004. Bowman's second short film 'Eco' was also produced in 2004 and selected for onedotzero9, Bitfilm, and 25fps film festivals. Continuing an interest in collaboration, the haunting 'City Lights, Dark Duplicates' was produced in 2005 under the name theDose with artists Evan Dennis and Elliot Blanchard. 'City Lights, Dark Duplicates' featured music by Markus Wormstorm (African Dope Records) and was screened at Bitfilm and onedotzero9 film festivals. Art Contemporain å Boulogne-Billancourt curated 'City Lights, Dark Duplicates' for the Mobile exhibition presented in Paris in April of 2006.
In 2006 Brian Levi Bowman joined Tronic Studio, enabling a more organic creative process. With Tronic he led creative projects for Wired Magazine, General Electric and Playboy and contributed as a designer for Microsoft, Target, Sony Music and many others.
After a productive tenure at Tronic, Bowman left Tronic and is currently the Creative Director at Digital Kitchen New York.
